Management Team

Peter M. Guyer

Founder and President

Peter has over 20 years in the global food and beverage industry. Prior to founding AMI, he was an expatriate executive at Nestlé S.A., based in Switzerland. His last position was Vice President, Business Development, with Profit&Loss responsibility for an $80 million beverage manufacturing business. Prior to that he held senior level positions with Nestlé in Europe, Asia and North America with P&L responsibility for businesses exceeding $100 million. Sharon Sappington

Vice President

Ms. Sappington is Vice President of Athena Marketing International (AMI). Prior to joining AMI, she assisted U.S. and overseas companies improve operational and management performance, expand sales, and capture market opportunities. Her international work included North America, Latin America, Asia, and Eastern/Western Europe, with seven of those years living in South America. Her industry experience spanned many industries, including global beverages, consumer goods and hospitality.

Sharon began her career with Minnesota-based Rosemount Inc., a subsidiary of Fortune 100 Emerson Electric, where she had management roles in engineering, quality, manufacturing and capital equipment procurement. She then joined Rosemount’s international group, first in international contract administration and then international sales and marketing, where she launched high visibility programs enhancing sales effectiveness of the global sales force, with particular focus on Asia and Russia.

When she re-located abroad, Ms. Sappington worked for a wine and spirits company in Chile and developed their export sales in Asia, Europe and the U.S. She brought a fresh eye to the operation and helped the company develop more sophisticated branding and commercial marketing practices. After three years in Chile, she relocated to Bolivia for four years where she consulted on a number of projects including the export potential of Bolivian wines and brandies, and assessed the export readiness of the industry. She designed an export management company to serve as the outsourced provider to individual beverage producers and brand owners.

Erin Smith

Manager – International Sales

Erin has domestic and international experience in marketing specialty food and beverage products in addition to a production and quality assurance background with one of the United State’s largest food producers.

Erin began her career in the wine industry and has spent time with some of California and Washington’s premium producers where her responsibilities included brand development, implementation and management of consumer loyalty programs, and the launch of social media campaigns.

Prior to attending graduate school, Erin managed the Quality Assurance and Environmental departments at Del Monte Foods’ production facility in Yakima, WA. There she led the plant’s efforts in new product commissioning, food safety, and sustainability.

Most recently, Erin completed her M.B.A. internship with a Mexican importer and distributor of American food ingredients where her projects included the nationwide launch of a new snack product and the company’s expansion into the United States.
Erin holds an International M.B.A with concentrations in marketing and Spanish from the University of South Carolina and a B.S. in International Agribusiness Management with a minor in Wine/Viticulture from California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo.

Erin was a competitive equestrian in college and continues to compete in alumni classes on the collegiate circuit and in Arabian breed shows when time allows. She is a member of the Junior League of Seattle and enjoys experimenting with recipes from around the world.

Sharon Lee

Marketing Associate

She is responsible for the company’s global market research, database design and development, sampling programs, international trade show management, U.S. government marketing program management, and office management. Sharon supports AMI clients and colleagues with required market research and database requirements for marketing, as well as general administration.

Prior to joining ATHENA MARKETING INTERNATIONAL (AMI), Sharon was the Database Administrator for a large medical office. She developed and designed database strategies, monitored database performance and capacity, and organized sensitive databases to improve performance and operate efficiently. She also implemented security measures to safeguard databases. Sharon also initiated and managed corporate policies and procedures to improve internal communication and work flow. She will be performing all of these functions at AMI.

Ms. Lee holds a B.A. degree in International Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. She is fluent in Korean and English. Sharon is an active volunteer at the Eastlake Community Lutheran Church.
